Portable Apps For EeePC!

You can find out more about PortableApps here. As for me, I have installed a lot of the software provided by the suite.

For office use, I use the slightly heavyweight OpenOffice suite.

It has word processor, spreadsheet, presentations. A reason to use OpenOffice is that OpenOffice has Microsoft documents compatibility, so you are assured that you will be able to view just about any documents you need.

It also has FirefoxPortable, a version of Firefox that is able to run off from RAM space, which would increase firefox’s performance.

Another software worth mentioning is KeePass, a password manager. It will allow you to safely store all your complicated password, and use them without the need to memorizing all of them, but just one password for the whole password database file.
