Speedup Windows XP
If you have a slow desktop, or maybe a netbook like me (EeePC1000), you would appreciate performance tweaks that would increase the speed of XP.
This tutorial will describe tweaks that would minimize the processing needs of XP, like switching off pagefile, and reducing graphical user interface(GUI) processing.
The following tweaks are done to my WinXP installation on my EeePC1000…
Steps to Switching off Pagefile:
- Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Under Performance, click Settings.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual Memory click Change
- Select your existing C drive and set it to "No paging file"
- Click OK to the rest of the popups.
- Restart computer for the setting to take effect.
Steps to Reduce GUI Processing
- Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Under Performance, click Settings.
- Under "Visual Effects" tab, click "Adjust for best performance"
Alternatively, you could tweak the settings to your preference between appearance and performance. - Click OK to apply the settings.
- Click OK to rest of the popups.
